Still’s disease PLEASE HELP?
Hi my son is 3yrs old and was diagnosed with still’s in 2009 after months of spiking temps without any cause. When he was admitted in 2009 for tests he had tonsilitis and they did wonder if that was it. However his CRP was 241 and ENT said tonsilitis would not cause it to be this high.
Since 6 months treatment of steroid tablets we have had no spikes of temp like we used to. He had steroid injections in ankle joint and knee joints in Jan 2011 which did reduce inflammations and he had been in remission since.
Since last sat he had been having temps which did come out of know where as he was fine all day sat and with an hour of saying his foot was hurting his temp was 38.5. He was diagnosed with tonsillitis y’day and I though he was better today but again at around 16.30 his temp had spiked to 38.5 and this happened 1 hour and 30 mins after paracetomol.
My question is can tonsillitis and still’s be related and should I be phoning his specialist.

Apart from all the other symptoms that are possible with Still’s disease, which I must assume that you are aware of, there is also commonly swelling of the lymph glands, and the tonsils, being peripheral lymphatic organs, are also included under this heading. The form of Still’s disease that occurs in children is more commonly known as Systemic–onset Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. The cause of Still’s disease remains unclear. One theory is that a bacterial infection or virus attacks the immune system. Another thought is that Still’s is an autoimmune disorder. For your peace of mind and to be certain that your son continues to receive the best available treatment, you would be advised to inform his specialist of this latest presentation.
